On Wednesday, April 3rd beginning at 5:30 pm, Fair Tide will announce Kick It as its April Thrift Store Sponsor at an Open House Wine and Cheese Social. Opened in 2012 by Sara Howard of Kittery and Lynne Hanlon of York, Kick It is a spa that specializes in organic foot soaks and holistic massages.

For Howard, the opportunity to support Fair Tide, a nonprofit transitional housing program in Kittery, is an important first step toward getting involved in the community at “a grass-roots level.”

“Fair Tide is committed to improving the lives of people in need within our community,” she said. “What I like most is they help people get back on their feet and become self reliant. Fair Tide’s service to the community makes the community more vibrant.”

“Hopefully, we can offer some services to Fair Tide residents to help relieve some stress,” added Hanlon. “Everyone deserves to be pampered.”

Expressing gratitude at the new sponsorship, Fair Tide’s Barbara McGaughey hopes community members join the informal event.

“We hold these open houses to connect past and current sponsors with the community,” she said. “We are a community thrift store. It’s important the community feels welcome.”

Fair Tide’s Open House Wine and Cheese Social will begin at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, April 3rd at The Fair Tide Thrift Store at 15 State Road in Kittery.

The Fair Tide Thrift Store recently opened a silent auction in which 12 collectible McCoy Pottery pieces will be up for bid through Friday, March 29th followed by an in-store sale of 7 additional items on Saturday, March 30th.

Some of the most collectible items include a Basket Weave Pattern Jardinere, a Two Handled Peacock Vase, and an Elephant Dish. Noting most items will most likely sell for well under their appraised value, Fair Tide’s Barbara McGaughey said the auction/sale represents an opportunity for serious collectors to “score great deals.”

“The best part is that proceeds benefit our transitional housing program for the homeless, so the community wins, too,” she added.

The McCoy Pottery silent auction will conclude at the end of Friday, March 29that The Fair Tide Thrift Store at 15 State Road in Kittery. The in-store sale will take place at the store on Saturday, March 30th beginning at 10 am.

Founded in 1998, Fair Tide is a prevention program that combines safe, affordable housing with comprehensive supportive services to keep people safe as they gain the necessary skills to obtain and maintain permanent housing.
